Meet Carly – Guest Feature | Vision of Rose Photography

IMG_2301

My name is Carly Deaver and I am 21 years old.   I live in Prince George where I met the love of my life and my high school sweetheart Bryon.  We have been together 4 years and plan on spending the rest of our lives together.

IMG_7370
I currently work at VCU medical center in the OR as an Anesthesia Tech and recently got a second job with Bon Secours at Richmond Community Hospital working as an ED Tech. I volunteer with Prince George Fire and EMS with my mom, dad, brother, and boyfriend.  You could say it definitely runs in the family.
CARLY01
I am a Christian and I have always believed that God has a plan for all of us.  No, I unfortunately do not go to church every Sunday like I used to but that’s ok.  God knows I love and worship him.
CARLY05
My biggest struggle in life is my self image and recently my weight.  I have always struggled with my weight even when I was younger.  I never looked like the other girls.  I grew boobs and a tummy.  I was never stick skinny.  I got down to my smallest size my sophomore and junior year of high school thanks to my life dedication to dance.  I recently made a huge life change and I am motivated to get down to my goal weight.  I have learned that over the years that I am beautiful no matter what I weigh or what I look like.  It’s what’s on the inside that matters.   I thank Bryon for that because he constantly reminds me of it.
CARLY02
Other than that,  I LOVE to go camping! It’s something I have done my entire life and I can’t wait to do it and experience it with my children in the future.  I get to spend time with my family away from all the hustle and bustle at home.  I also love spending time with my best friends! I don’t know where in the world I would be without them.
CARLY04
My biggest inspiration is my father.  He came from nothing when he was younger and he’s taught me that you have to work for what you want.  Nothing in this world is free and everything comes with a price.  He is the reason I do what I do.  I remember being a little girl going on fire calls with my dad and sitting in the truck and watching and saying “wow, I wanna be like him one day”.  I’ll never forget those moments and he will always be my hero.
CARLY03
On to fashion.  Since spring is almost here, I will be bringing out the gladiators, high low skirts, maxi skirts, and the baggy tanks.  I really like the bohemian chic style for that time of year because it’s baggy, breathable, and flattering.
CARLY06

I guess the most important thing to remember is to always be yourself because everyone else in the world is taken.  In the words of Coco Chanel “a girl should be two things, classy and fabulous“.

Guest Blog – Meet Johnie | Vision of Rose Photography

Hello! My name is Johnie D’Anne Cochran and I am a 2015 VRP Spokesmodel. I am 32 years old, born and raised in Hopewell, VA. I have been happily married to my wonderful husband for 10 years and I have an amazing 12 year old son! I currently work for myself and am going to school to be a Social Worker.

JOHNIE1 JOHNIE2
I have a passion for people. I love people and believe in humanity. I enjoy meeting different people and getting to know more about their beliefs and cultures. I enjoy helping people whenever I can. I believe in ‘Pay It Foward” and try to do it as much as possible. I am a great listener and consider myself to be a great friend.
JOHNIE3
Like anyone else, I have had my shares of struggles. In 2005 I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. After treatments, several surgeries and medications, I beat it and am able to concentrate on re-building my mind and body. Due to my illness, I lost TONS of weight and have been unable to gain it back. I have been so unhappy with myself and my body because of this. But, FINALLY with the help of wonderful friends and family, I am at a great place with myself. I will struggle with this every day of my life, but it is gets easier and easier every day. I can finally put something on and say “I am beautiful” because I feel beautiful. For 2015 I hope to help other women with their struggles. I want other women to feel like I do now and know that they are not alone. I want them to have the same confidence that I do and know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
johnie4
I am honored to be a VRP Spokesmodel. I believe in Rosey and in her Vision. I support her belief that every woman should feel beautiful and know they are beautiful. I love the variety and style of her photos. Vision of Rose stands for more than a beautiful woman with her hair and make up done and you see that in each photo that Rosey takes.
johnie5
Thanks and I look forward to an exciting year!

Why Your Photographer Matters (Boudoir) | Vision of Rose Photography

One of the most common questions I am asked by not only clients & potential clients but up and coming photographers as well is if the photographer you choose really matters when it comes to having boudoir portraits taken. While this is something that you would probably think isn’t that big of a deal, it truly is when you’re choosing your photographer. Here’s why:

Boudoir photographers who specialize in boudoir or women’s portraiture will ensure you’re posed in a way that is flattering to your body type. We make sure the lighting is perfect as to not cast any shadows in any unwanted areas. We encourage and uplift you not only during your session but before and after as well. A photographer who specializes in boudoir will take the time to help you plan your wardrobe carefully as to ensure we are picking outfits that not only are flattering to your body type, your skin tone, your style but we also want to make sure the outfits you have picked will be flattering on camera as well. When considering your boudoir photographer, take a look at the photos they have done and ask yourself if that is a way in which you wish to be photographed. If they do not have any boudoir sessions in their portfolio that they can show you, look over their other portrait sessions. Look at the editing style, the lighting, the poses… does it look natural, does it flow well, are the clients posed in a manner in which is flattering or intrigues you to want to be photographed in that way? If you cannot answer yes to all of those for the photographer(s) you are considering, then keep searching until you find someone that blows you away!

I know, you’re probably thinking what is actually the next most common question… “What if I can’t afford the photographer I WANT?” Well, there are a few options here. You could easily give up and go to another photographer that fits your budget and take the risk of not being 100% satisfied with what you get (and yes, there’s always the chance that you could love them). Or, you can cut back on a few things that you could possibly do without such as Starbucks, eating out at restaurants, purchasing another purse, drinks with the ladies, etc. There are many ways that you could save up until you can afford the photographer that you have your heart set on, you just have to commit to doing so. Ask your photographer if they happen to have an installment plan or a payment plan! Many photographers do. Just make sure you are putting the investment where it matters. For instance, you wouldn’t pay almost full price for a knock-off version of a Michael Kors bag if you can just keep saving for a little longer and get the real deal. Look at your chosen photographer as this way. Sure, there are many up and coming photographers that are AMAZING at their work, but if your heart is not invested in them right from the very beginning, but you choose to settle with them, then guess what happens? You’re going to put a whole lot of expectation into that photographer, only to take the risk of being let down – because right from the beginning, you were not 100% satisfied with their work to begin with.

So what are some things you should look for when choosing your boudoir photographer? Here’s just a few pointers that I personally would look for not only as a photographer but as a client.

1. Have they ever shot boudoir before? (This is VERY important if you are new to boudoir! If this is your very first boudoir session, I would recommend going to someone who is seasoned in boudoir and knows exactly how to pose you!)

2. Are they familiar with posing many body types? (This is so very important for not only curvy women, but women with ALL body shapes! There are so many ways a woman can be posed that isn’t flattering to her body style.)

3. What type of boudoir do they shoot and is that what I want? (Do they shoot nude boudoir? Do they shoot sensual, insinuated boudoir? Is their boudoir style romantic and flowy? All of this is important when considering your boudoir photographer because if you do not feel comfortable posing nude, then you wouldn’t quite choose a photographer who does nude style boudoir. Or, if being romantic and girly isn’t your style, then you wouldn’t choose a romantic style boudoir photographer. There are many styles to consider when choosing your perfect photographer.)

4. Are their prices almost too good to be true? (Is your photographer running a $50 special? Chances are they COULD be quite new to boudoir or a new photographer. Make sure this is what you want. Again, think of the Michael Kors bag. Would you second guess the bag if you saw one on e-Bay for $10 when they normally sell for way more?? Possibly. And yes, there’s always that chance that you could luck out and get amazing photos that you LOVE for this price! I’m not saying that’s not possible. But I am saying if you are not 100% satisfied with looking at that photographers work from the very beginning, then chances are, that’s how you’ll feel about your own photos as well.)

5. Does your photographer advertise all of their boudoir sessions online? (Is this something you want to do? Check if your photographer allows for their boudoir sessions to remain private. Some photographers are all for privacy, but there are some who are not.)

6. Is their editing style EXACTLY what you want? (If a photographer edits all of their photos to black and white, chances are yours would be black and white too. If this isn’t want you want, then don’t go with that photographer. Make sure their editing style matches what you’re looking for.)

7. Is the photographer willing to help you choose your wardrobe and are they helping you out by telling you how to prepare for your session? (This is SO IMPORTANT! Wardrobe is everything and if your photographer isn’t aware of what outfits work best for your body type and the session you want, then keep searching!)

3girls

So there you have it! Hopefully you’ll walk away from this blog feeling more confident in who you choose as your boudoir photographer and truly, the same applies to all portrait sessions. You and your photographer have to have an understanding and connection from the very beginning and if you do not feel that with them, then keep searching! There are MILLIONS of photographers out there who can suit your needs and work with you along the way to make sure you’re walking away from your sessions feeling BEAUTIFUL!

If you have any questions or need advice about picking your boudoir photographer OR if you’re currently looking for one, shoot me an email to info@visionofrosephotography.com and I’ll be glad to help you out!!

2014 in Review | Vision of Rose Photography

My goodness. This year is almost over! Where to even begin. First, I just want to take a moment to say thank you. From the bottom, deepest, most sincere part of my heart… THANK YOU. Your support this year has just been absolutely incredible and I cannot imagine how my year would have turned out if it were not for each and every one of my clients, supporters, followers, reps, models, team… everyone. I mean, there just isn’t enough room here for me to type out just how much I love each of you dearly. This year has been such a challenging year for me as I transitioned away from doing as many weddings as I did in 2013 and pushed more into photographing glamour, boudoir, pinup, seniors and couples. I was TERRIFIED (to say the least) when I announced last year that I was only taking a very limited amount of weddings for the 2014 year. But, through your support… it worked.

So, before we go into what I’ve put together for you all, let’s take a look back throughout the year and see some of the big milestones VRP hit this year (thanks to you all)!

– Hit a 2,000 – 3,000 – 4,000 – 5,000 and now 6,000 LIKE MILESTONE ON FACEBOOK!
– Introduced our brand new senior rep program for the 2014 year!
– Introduced our seriously awesome couture spokesmodel program for the upcoming 2015 year!
– Learned that it’s SO very important to take vacation time!
– Overcame an unexpected studio move!
– Checked off all of the following shoots from my “dream shoot” list:
Princess shoot for THISAbility, Ice Queen styled shoot, Burlesque styled shoot, Paris Princess styled shoot, Floral Queen styled shoot, Day of the Dead styled shoot, Pinup calendar (twice!), Peach & Coral styled shoot, Coral & Nautical styled shoot, Royalty styled shoot, Punk Rock & Glam styled shoot, Alternative styled shoot AND a Before & After shoot.
– Was published on 21 different blogs, magazines and sites. Between the 21 different blogs, magazines and sites, over 48 sessions were published across them.
– Photographed a wedding in a museum.
– Met Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan while leaving a photo shoot.
– Upgraded my camera to the Mark II and purchased a new lens.
– Purchased a flash for my camera as well as a full body reflector.
– Was featured in the Hopewell News and the News Patriot.
– Photographed a concert and was allowed backstage! (wooo-hoo! Thank you, Destination Church & Destination Worship)
– Photographed several sessions INSIDE the gorgeous Beacon Theater in Hopewell.
– Had 5 clients drive from OUT OF STATE to have me photograph them! (That is INSANELY awesome)
– Reached over 1 million photo views on PASS.
– Mentored 15 different businesses and 10 different photographers throughout the year.
– Held Ladies Night on 2 different occasions. Both were a success!
– Held a Mother & Daughter AND a Mother & Son mixer/luncheon this year!
– Photographed more MEN!
– Launched my campaign, Loving the Skin I’m In

And most of all… I improved. That was a BIG one to me. I always want to make sure I’m bettering myself not only as a photographer but as a business woman and I feel this year, I met each of my goals I set forth for the 2014 year. Now, 2015… you all better look out! I have some AMAZING things in store that I think you’re going to LOVE!

Ok, on to the mushy stuff…I wanted to put something special together just as my way of saying thank you for everything each of you have done for me but nothing I thought of truly made me feeling like “ah-ha! This is it!” At least until I thought of putting together just a little slideshow of every session I completed this year (except for those very private boudoir, some pinup and private weddings I photographed).

This doesn’t come close to what I really wanted to do but honestly, I’m a bit of a perfectionist so you probably wouldn’t have it until wayyyy after the new year has begun. So, it’s best for me to draw the line and say this is it! haha 🙂 I hope you all enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed putting it together for you. Feel free to share it, leave some comments or just reminisce with me over this past year. Enjoy. ❤ See you in 2015!

Wardrobe Consultations + More | Vision of Rose Photography

There have been quite a few changes that I’ve wrestled with for the past few months. I wondered how I would implement them and if they were really changes that would move VRP forward for the coming year. I’m SO excited for all of the changes coming not only for 2015, but starting with the month of November! Instead of writing multiple paragraphs that may confuse or allow me to ramble on (which I’m famous for), I thought it would just be easier if I list each change coming individually! So let’s go with that!

Starting November 2014:
– All glamour, boudoir, pin up, couple’s (love) sessions and senior sessions will come with a complimentary IN PERSON wardrobe consultation (see below to find out what this is and how it can benefit you!)
– In an effort to make sessions more affordable, both our lowest package and highest package have been combined into ONE amazingly affordable package for all sessions
– Payment + Installment Plans have been created for ALL sessions with Flex-Pay options and INTEREST FREE payments!!! (I’m EXTREMELY excited for this one)
– All completed sessions will have an in-person ordering session where you’ll be able to come into the studio, view your images and place a print or product order if you wish!
– Instead of disk and USB upgrades, all sessions and weddings will now be uploaded into an online album that stays live for TEN YEARS! Yes, you just read that correctly! This makes it SO much easier for each of you to receive your album FASTER and the awesome part is, this feature allows you to share your images with your friends and family with ease instead of having everyone wait on sharing a disk or USB! You will be able to order prints directly from your album and prints will ship directly to you from the printing company! I’m so thrilled about this feature because I have been looking for a way that allows my clients to share their images with ease but also have them backed up and stored in a safe place. From the album, you can order prints, share the images with friends and family, download the images to a device of your choice, view them directly from your smartphone from ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and so much more! Much better than having to keep up with disks and USB’s or having to pay an additional fee for lost, stolen or damaged disks and USB’s. 🙂
– All glamour, boudoir and pin up sessions will now include a complimentary foot soak while you’re getting your hair done!! How awesome is that! I recently held a pedicure party at my home and fell IN LOVE with Arbonne’s products (www.arbonne.com) and decided to become a consultation so that I could give this same amazing experience to my clients! So, with every booked glamour, boudoir and pin up session,  you’ll also receive the foot soak treatment!! How awesome is that!?

Starting December 2014:
– Mini Sessions will be a permanent option for those who wish to just get a few shots in for updated family photos! Pricing will be announced in November 2014!
– VIP Beauties: This is something I am so so so thrilled about! BUT for now, I’ll leave you wondering what it is! 😉 Look for an announcement blog to come about this feature around the first or second week of November!

Starting January 2015:
– She’s So Glamorous will now officially be a MONTHLY magazine and YOU could be chosen for the cover if you’ve had a session done with VRP in the past year!
– She’s So Glamorous will also now feature some of my personal favorite places, products and more. This feature is coming by request. I’ve had MANY of you ask that I start putting my beauty reviews, place reviews and product reviews/recommendations in the magazine instead of on the blog and that’s exactly what I’ll do! 🙂
– Client Referral Incentives. This is something that has been a long time coming. We’ve tried MANY different things to repay those of you who refer clients to us and I think we have truly designed a program that will do just that, and more! Look for this announcement blog to come your way in mid-December.
– VRP Loyalty Program. I’m currently working with a company to bring a loyalty program to VRP for those of you that use VRP frequently throughout the year! This is one program that you’ll definitely WANT to sign up for! Announcement blog on this will come in mid-December as well!

So there you have it! Lots of amazing changes are coming your way and I truly feel that we are taking one HUGE step forward into this coming year with LOTS of goodies and perks you can cash in for being a loyal VRP supporter!

Now, on to the wardrobe consultation! What is it, and how can you benefit from it? Many clients that book glamour, boudoir, pin up, couple’s love sessions and senior sessions with me always say something quite similar: “I don’t know what to wear!” or “I don’t have anything to wear!” Sometimes, clients tend to put too much thought into an outfit and then feel overwhelmed. To bring the FUN back into each of these sessions, all glamour, boudoir, couple’s love sessions, pin up and senior sessions will come with a complimentary IN PERSON wardrobe consultation. This is where I’ll have you bring in anywhere from 5 – 10 of your favorite pieces of clothing, shoes, accessories, hand bags, or props to my home studio and we will piece together a unique look that represents you and your style! Sometimes, all it takes is another set of eyes looking at your wardrobe for you to see that you really do have some gem pieces to put together! During your wardrobe consultation, we’ll also go over how you want to be photographed, what you want to look like in your photos. We’ll cover any areas that you feel insecure about and list them do so I can ensure I capture you in a way that you WANT to be captured! We’ll go over your makeup looks and hairstyles and then, we’ll pull everything together and plan out the perfect session. If you see something in-studio you wish to wear, we’ll list that down and you’ll have access to it! I want you to get the absolute MOST out of your investment and I truly feel like this is the first step!

Another exciting thing that we have been doing already over at VRP is every month, we are ordering 1-2 dresses or wardrobe pieces to keep in-studio! We’re ordering these in MANY sizes so we can ensure we reach our entire client base. I’m so excited for this particular feature of VRP because I have always wanted to keep an on-hand wardrobe for each of my clients! As we receive these dresses in-studio, look out for a casting call to come out for the dress (size will be posted) we have received so we can get some promo images of each of them!!!

So there you have it!!! All of the AMAZING changes coming to VRP! I hope you are as excited as I am about these changes and I look forward to working with each and every one of you in the future!!! If you’re excited for these changes SHARE this blog post and be sure to leave me some feedback over what you’re most excited about!!!!!

Inside VRP | Vision of Rose Photography

When I started thinking of how I would create the best client experience, my thoughts immediately went to thinking I *HAVE* to own a studio. I *HAVE* to have a studio for clients to come to or else, I couldn’t be a *real* photographer.  I searched and searched for a studio that fit not only the location I wanted but the budget I could afford as well.  I soon found an amazing offer in Petersburg and jumped right on it; without prayer. Unfortunately, things don’t always go the way WE plan. Plans change, people change, places change, needs change…

As I was moving out of the studio yesterday, I kept thinking “how on earth am I going to be able to continue to do indoor glamour and boudoir when needed??” The rest of the shoots, I wasn’t worried about because I do them outdoors anyway! I came home, I cried and tried to figure out where to go from here. I felt like a failure. I didn’t know what to do from there. It wasn’t until my husband came in and said these words to me:

“Rosey. What did you build your business around”
-“Treating my clients like gold.”
“And what do you do with them?”
-“Build relationships with them…”
“Ok, so, you want your clients to feel close to you. You want them to feel welcomed, you want to build relationships with them. What better way to do that than to welcome them into your home??? How much more personal does it get than that?”

And you know what, he is so right. I thought I *NEEDED* all of these things to build my business when really, I had what I needed all along. For those of you who started with me, you came to my home for your sessions. That’s how VRP was built! As a home-based business. So what made me think that I couldn’t do it again? That this wasn’t ok? The enemy. Because that’s what he does. He forces you to believe that you fail, he wants you to feel like the victim so you cannot succeed. Finding solace in the darkness is what I’ve always been about. It’s just who I am. So after the tears were shed yesterday, the anger was let out and the victim mentality was erased… I saw the silver lining.

I began unpacking my items and I created something that was even better than what I had. Each and every piece of what I have out in my home studio represents me, my brand and what I want my clients to experience. When you walk in, I want you to feel like you’ve arrived to a whole new euphoria. I want you to take in the scents, feel the aura that surrounds the room, look at all of the sights.. because that’s what it’s about. The experience. That’s what it has ALWAYS been about for me. When I first started, I would bake fresh homemade muffins or create a gorgeous fruit tray for my clients to enjoy during their glamour, boudoir or pin up session. I wasn’t able to do this in a location away from home. But now, I can get up early and I can take the time to create this experience for them, for you!

To those of you who are feeling like you aren’t at a professional level because you don’t have a studio or you feel like you NEED one – don’t. Sure, not everyone has the home space to accommodate a home studio but let me tell you one thing, dreams aren’t just created by a thought. They’re birthed from a desire. A deep desire that resides in your heart and if you choose to just roll up and quit then that dream will always just be a fantasy.  So here’s some advice I wish I would’ve received about my business – Work with what you have and get your business off the ground! Remember that things don’t happen over night. Always go with what represents YOU and your business! NEVER EVER take yourself for granted or fail to believe in yourself.

In closing, I’m leaving you with a few photos I took yesterday of the new home studio. I hope that when you see them, you see my vision, my passion, my heart… the experience I have created for YOU when you come to see me.

Nina as Princess Leia | Vision of Rose Photography

This one is for all of you Star Wars fans!

Nina won a cosplay boudoir session with me and after we had to reschedule a couple of times, we were finally able to shoot on Wednesday! It was SO worth the wait! Nina chose a Princess Leia costume from “Return of the Jedi”; otherwise known as the slave scene costume.

She ROCKED this costume like no other! Seriously, she is such a natural beauty to begin with and when you introduce the camera to her, magic just happens.
